Quick Overview
16# double-faced sledge hammer with a hickory handle.
Forged from tool steel, Made in USA, with clear lacquer finish to deter rust.
Striking faces are precision machined with proper radius and chamfer.
Heat Treated after machining for increased depth of hardness. (Many makers show a turned striking face. This may look more attractive but means they cut off hardened material, leaving less depth.)
Heat treatment process produces fine grain structure and RC 45-54 (Rockwell for safety and toughness).
Clear lacquer finish on head to deter rust.
36" American hickory handle, kiln dried before turning and the eye section is dried below 10% moisture content prior to assembly.
Handle is hydraulically inserted into head and secured with a serrated aluminum wedge. A very secure mechanical bond. Some handle length if removed during fitting the handle to the head-typically 1/2 to 1".
Meets or exceeds ASME B107.54-2001.
